Living in London can be exciting and stimulating—and at times, overwhelming. The pace, the noise, the constant movement can leave little room to pause and check in with yourself. Self-care is personal and you will need to try things out to see what works for you.
Here are a few simple suggestions to help support your emotional wellbeing day-to-day:
1. Find small moments of stillness. Whether it’s a quiet five minutes before the day begins, a moment with a cup of tea, or just noticing your breath on the bus—these pauses help recentre you amidst the city’s busy rhythm.
2. Connect with green spaces. London is full of hidden gardens, expansive parks, and tree-lined paths. Even a short walk in nature can offer a sense of calm and perspective.
3. Create boundaries around noise and stimulation. Protect your nervous system by choosing quiet routes, turning off notifications, or having time offline when you can.
4. Stay connected—with others, and with yourself. Meaningful connection helps us feel less alone. A text to a friend, a shared meal, or simply checking in with how you’re feeling can make a difference.
5. Try things at your own pace. Wellbeing isn’t a race. It’s okay to go slowly, to say no, to rest. Your needs matter, even in a fast-moving world. There are no rules to looking after wellbeing and improving self-care, these are suggestions and gentle invitations - you might have better ways that work for you.
In person-centred therapy, you can explore what wellbeing means for you, in your own way, at your own pace—even in the heart of a city that rarely stops.
